How can I become a member?
You can sign up by coming to one of our upcoming events or by dropping by our office. If we’re not available at the time which suits you best just send us an email and we will set up a meeting.

I’m not a diver yet. What can I expect by joining the club?
We run discover scuba sessions where you can try scuba diving out in the pool for very little money (watch our upcoming events page closely so as not to miss the opportunity try it out for free). If you’re eligible, you may even get certified for free: see Grant U-21. Members will participate in many fun social events and will meet other people who also want to get certified so you won’t end up with a group of complete strangers. Learn more about the benefits of becoming a member by visiting our membership section.

Do you run courses?
We don’t run courses for beginners. Instead, we can direct members to one of Edmonton’s dive shops.

What is the open water course?

It is a certification course consisting of 2 main portions that can be completed over 2 weekends or so. You spend 1 weekend in classroom and participate in pool sessions, Friday night until Sunday. If you are busy weekends, you can choose to do it 1 night a week over 6 weeks, usually Wednesday nights. Classrooms and pool sessions are followed by the open water portion which takes another weekend up in Jasper or in BC. The open water portion takes 4 open water dives, 2 dives each day. The price for the entire course ranges from $350 to $400.
*The open water course schedule may vary from organization to organization and from operation to operation; check out the organization or diving operation’s web site for details.

How do I get certified?
To get certified you need to complete the open water course (What is the open water course?). The pool/classroom sessions run all year round at local dive stores (see Resources for the list of diving operations in Edmonton). The diving season in Edmonton runs from April to September. You can choose to complete your open water portion in Jasper if it’s still warm enough, or participate in one of our dive trips, where you can complete the course with our club instructors. You can also complete the open water dives overseas anywhere in the world at another dive centre. All you need is a referral note from your instructor who completed your pool/classroom sessions.

How much does it cost?

Pool/classroom sessions range from $260 to $320. The open water portion costs around $140. The combined full open water course ranges from $350 to $450. Some diving operations offer prices that are fully inclusive, including gear and manuals; others charge extra for these. Usually open water students are encouraged to buy their own snorkeling gear (a mask, fins, and a snorkel). These basics are typically not expensive. Remember: being a member makes you eligible for discounts at our sponsors’ operations. You can also complete your open water portion with us while participating in one of our dive trips.
*Prices may change; for updated prices call the store or check out their websites (see Resources).
