The Grant U-21 is the Scuba Appreciation Club’s way of saying thank you to our members, and encouraging them to experience the underwater world. We are offering one $400 bursary towards your PADI Open Water certification and two $200 bursaries towards further PADI certifications of your choice. The application is straightforward for anyone that would like to learn to scuba dive. Read on if you are interested!

Conditions

  • Must be 21 years old or under on September the 1st (if applying in fall) or January the 1st (if applying in winter)
  • Must be an active club member (see Membership)
  • Must attend 2 club events (Pool Sessions, fundraisers, meetings, etc.)
  • Volunteer 4 hours of work before you receive the subsidy (for example, fundraising BBQs, recruiting booths, etc.)
  • You will receive the subsidy upon the completion of the course, with presentation of your receipt.

Availability

  • Full Subsidy (up to $400): up to 2 members per year, one each semester
  • Partial Subsidy (up to $200): up to 4 members, two each semester

Everyone who applies to do the Open Water course will be eligible for the Open Water certification bursary (up to $400), however if you are not selected you will be automatically eligible for a $200 course subsidy. If your course costs less than the bursary then you will be reimbursed for the full cost of the course only.

How to Apply

You must submit an application form (see below) in person to one of the executives either at office hours, an event such as a pool session or by pre-arranged meeting. You should plan on a brief 5-10 minute discussion about your application with the executive upon submission.

Deadline

Grant U-21 is awarded twice a year in the middle of Fall and Winter semesters.

The deadline for the 2012 application is midnight February 29th. Winners will be announced in early March.
